Pre-Wedding Photo Session in the High Peak Region of Derbyshire
As a photographer, there's nothing quite like spending time with a couple before their big day to really get a feel for their style, energy, and connection. I had the pleasure of photographing a pre-wedding session in the stunning High Peak region of Derbyshire, and it turned out to be a beautiful day—chilly but clear after all the rain we’d been having. The sun broke through the clouds just in time for our session, which felt like the perfect bit of luck.
Driving over to the location, I couldn’t help but think how fortunate we were with the weather. The day had started off with a bit of rain, but as I made my way to the high peaks, the clouds parted and the sun peeked through—something that felt pretty rare lately. The light on the landscape was just right, adding a soft, golden touch to the rugged scenery, making it an ideal backdrop for the photos.
As soon as I parked up, and saw them tucking in to breakfast baps in the car I knew they were my kind of people. We hit it off straight away, chatting and laughing as if we’d known each other for years. We chatted easily and I honestly had the best time. As a photographer, this is key to making sure everything goes smoothly on the wedding day. When you get along well with your clients, it makes all the difference in how comfortable and natural the photos turn out to be.
The High Peak region offered such a varied landscape, from the dramatic hills to the open moorland. The wintery conditions—cold but crisp—added a beautiful touch to the photos, and the couple’s connection against the backdrop of the vast, open landscape was exactly what they were hoping for. We spent the session moving around the area, taking advantage of the views and the changing light. There was a sense of calm and quiet that made the day feel special.
By the end of the session, I left with the feeling that their wedding day was going to be just as amazing as this pre-wedding shoot. Our time together had confirmed that we’d make a great team, and that we’d be able to create some really striking photos on their big day. This session not only gave me a chance to get to know them better, but it also allowed them to feel comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding, which is so important for capturing those authentic, candid moments.
